Medical Office Administration

Choose Reeves College's Medical Office Administration program and work as a medical office assistant in the heart of the fast-paced healthcare industry. During the program, you will learn all aspects of running a medical office, from administrative to technical skills.

Also, obtain real-world experience with a practicum placement at the end of the program. During the program, you will learn the latest medical office best practices, such as bookkeeping, computer skills, organizing medical records, transcribing medical information, operating specialized billing software, and preparing and administering basic medical tests. Other core curriculum focuses on human anatomy, diseases, medical terminologies, pharmacology, and clinical procedures.

Medical office assistants are fully trained to answer basic patient questions about their conditions and medication. Supporting courses will help you develop interpersonal and customer relations skills and focus on career development and job search.

Upon completing the program, you will receive a Medical Office Administration diploma, a Standard First Aid certificate and a CPR “C” certificate. Graduates are trained to in the following positions: admitting clerk, emergency room admitting clerk, medical secretary, medical transcriptionist, medical receptionist, medical billing clerk or medical office assistant.

This program is 43 weeks in length.

Government Student Loans

Currently, Alberta has a government-sponsored plan that provides loan assistance to qualified full-time students. The type and amount of assistance usually varies depending on your individual circumstances.

If you choose to fund your education through student loans, it is the college policy to apply all loan payments toward the tuition balance until the tuition and other costs are paid in full. This policy is subject to provincial regulation. Loan amounts that exceed tuition fees will be distributed directly to the student.

Other Financial Assistance

There may be other forms of financial aid available to you. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for specific government grants and bursaries. Additionally, you may be eligible to receive funding through a government-sponsored agency such as the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) or WorkSafe.

If you have questions about funding your education, each Reeves College has a Financial Advisor who can provide information about the various options available to you. Additionally, your Financial Advisor will also assist you with completing your application for whichever funding option you choose.
